If I ride the wings of the morning,
if I dwell by the farthest oceans,
even there your hand will guide me,
and your strength will support me.
No matter what situation we are in, Yahweh is there with us. It may feel like he isn’t there, and we may be unable to see his influence because of all the distress, but he is with us and supports us. No matter how high from the earth we travel, even to another galaxy, he is there. Even if we descend to the place of the dead he is there. If we were to ride the morning sunbeams to the far east, he would be there. If we moved far west beyond the ocean, he would be there.
We prefer to see things with our own eyes before we fully believe them. But God is not visible, so we easily forget that he is with us and that we can abide in him. When everything goes wrong again and again, then we ask ourselves “Where is God?” But he is always with us, and he can make all things work together for good if we love him (Rom. 8:28). Our perceptions are very faulty and if we do not feel him then we try to reach him to make sure he is with us. But that is a lack of faith; he wants us to believe that he is with us regardless of what we sense. Why should he have to keep proving himself to us? He is trying to encourage us to believe that he is always there and that he guides and supports us.
